VILLAJOYOSA


"Embalse Amadorio"


(Amadorio reservoir)


Mountain, "beaches", forest, or flat grass. Something for everyone!

Pros

  • LOTS of camping options here depending on your preference (general locations provided)

  • Mountain camp near a ruin with a view of the reservoir and sea

  • Great view from the mountain with the big ruin

  • Potential for hammock in the forest

Cons:

  • You will need to explore the beaches, forest and flat grass for exact camping spots

  • Potential for fishermen camping on the "beaches"

  • Take care accessing these areas because it is also a mountain biking area 

SUMACÀRCER



"Alt de la Ceja"

Sleep with the wild boars

Pros:

  • If you want to see wild boars, then this is the place for you!

  • You can drive over the mountains, but there are no houses, etc

  • Dedicated space to park

  • Great views of the sunset (and sunrise from the car park)

  • Remote and wild

Pros:

  • Wild boar hunting ground (I didn´t feel safe on the same level as them)

  • I moved my tent away from the forest when it got dark because I was surrounded by wild boars! I ended up sleeping in the car park

  • A forest (Bomberos) 4x4 passed early in the morning (about 8am), but I had already packed away my tent and was making coffee

SAN JUAN


"Riu Sec"


(Near the "Assut de Sant Joan") 


Quick escape from civilization

Pros:

  • Flat grassy area

  • Close to, but hidden from the path

  • Sound of the river

  • Not too far to walk

Cons:

  • Not suitable if it rains or has rained

POLOP


“Cim del Ponoig”

Treat yourself!

Pros:

  • High mountain camp (1,181metres)

  • Great views all around, of the mountains and sea

  • Ibex came by at night

Cons:

  • It is fairly close to Benidorm, so before the clouds settled, I could hear some faint noise below

  • A tough walk with camping gear but worth it!

PLANES


"Barranco de la Encantada"


Tent or bivvy high above the Barranco 

Pros:

  • Dedicated parking a few metres away

  • Remote area (only 1 house nearby)

  • Sunset view

  • Silent night

  • Hiking opportunities 

Cons:

  • 1x tiny space for a tent (if you want to be hidden)

  • Other option would be visible from the road (if anyone happened to pass)

NAVARRÉS


"Embalse de Escalona"

Queen of the reservoir

Pros:

  • Perfect spot for one small tent

  • Very close to, but lookign down on the reservoir 

  • So peaceful

  • Hidden, off the main path

  • Dedicated parking very close by

Cons:

  • The carpark is had a ridge at the entrance and a rocky ground

  • Some night time noise from the main “beach”

LORCHA


La Safor


"Font dels Òlbits" pincic area


Bivvy on a ledge above deer, wild boar and frogs

Pros:

  • An incredible night surrounded by wildlife visiting the water, but safe on the ledge above them

  • Great view down into the valley below

  • Remote

  • There is also a newly renovated shelter there (sleeps 2x people)

Cons:

  • You are not supposed to park here. However, signage is only displayed once you arrive! (parking on main road)

  • The rocky road is difficult for normal cars 

  • The ledge is not hidden (a campervan arrived at 7.20am!)

ENGUERA


“Via Ferrata Fuente Godalla”


Awesome spot at the end of the Via Ferrata route

Pros:

  • Perfect location if you are doing the Via Ferrata!

  • High up with a great sunset view

  • Fairly short walk

  • Water fountain in the car park

  • Several space on this ledge 

Cons:

  • My tent got spotted by some night time via ferrata adventurers because their torch shone on the reflective part of my tent (otherwise it is the perfect hiding place!)

ELCHE


Sierra de Tabaiá


Mountain camp


Big flat scenic area for several tents

Pros:

  • Just off the main path but hidden

  • Great view towards Elche 

  • Can accomodate several tents

Cons:

  • View obscured by a fence along the edge 

  • No photo! (photo was taken nearby) However, the location is very obvious

  • A few houses below, so potential for night time noise (e.g. dog barking)

Sierra de Tabaiá



Mountain camp





Camp looking over the valley

Pros:

  • Just off the main path but hidden

  • Great view towards Elche reservoir and "Puente de los 5 Ojos" bridge

Cons:

  • View obscured by a fence along the edge 

  • No photo! (photo was taken nearby) And I didn´t take note of the terrain/area

Sierra de Tabaiá


"Corral de Tabaiaí"

Bivvy party in a cave house

Pros:

  • 3x sleeping areas (could accommodate 6x people)

  • Socialising area with a view

  • Protected with a roof

Cons:

  • Evidence of other users

  • Sleep close to others

ELCHE


"Pantano de Elche"


(Elche Reservoir)



Mountain camp with a view of the waterfall

Pros:

  • Pretty area with impressive waterfall that you can see from the camping spot!

  • Short walk 

  • Great hiking opportunities

Cons:

  • Near the airport, so planes pass overhead every regularly late-evening and early-morning

CHELLA


"La cueva que llueva"


(Near "Salto de Chella")


Bivvy in a cave

Pros:

  • Sleeping area and seating areas/surfaces outside

  • Protected from bad weather

  • Ruin and caves to explore

  • Pool to swim in

  • Waterfall sound

Cons:

  • The area is not very clean. Looks like it has been used as a toilet

  • It is right next to the main path to the waterfall

  • No view

BOCAIRENT


Sierra de Mariola



"Castell de Mariola"


Camp near the castle

Pros:

  • Great view

  • Perfect view of the sunset AND the sunrise

  • I watched hot air balloons rising into the sky early in the morning

  • Nearby cave to explore 

Cons:

  • Noise from the picnic area below at night

  • Exposed to the wind

BOCAIRENT




Sierra de Mariola



"Alt de Sant Juame"




Meteor shower bivvy

Pros:

  • Great unobstructed view of the sky if you move away from Bocairent: Perfect for stargazing

  • Off the path, hidden away in the shrubbery

  • Silent night

  • Dedicated car park

Cons:

  • Narrow space just wide enough for 1 bivvy bag (although there is plenty of space on/near the path)

  • Exposed to wind

  • Watch out for spiky plants that could puncture an airbed

Paraje Los Aljezares


"Rincon Oscuro"



Solo bivvy in a pod

Pros:

  • Sunset view

  • Quiet area

  • Remote feel

Cons:

  • Long walk in

  • Visible from path

  • People could visit the caves

Forest to the east of the town





Too close to civilization

Pros:

  • Hidden away

  • Sunset view

  • Short walk from civilization

  • Safe parking in the town

Cons:

  • Noise from the church bell ringing every 30 minutes!!

  • The bulb also needed changing because it flashed all night!

"Montot" mountain


50 minute climb for a great view

Pros:

  • Sunset view 

  • Great view of the mountains, forest and towns 

Cons:

  • 1x tiny space for a small tent

  • Sunrise view blocked by peak. I didn´t explore further up. Potential for camp with 360 degree view 

  • Exposed to the wind 

  • Not suitable if rain is forecast, because the stream crossing could fill/flood

"Confluencia ríos de Anna y Sellent"


Perfect for a quick camp between adventures

Pros:

  • Big flat grassy area

  • Protected from the wind

  • Silent night

  • 1x tent can be hidden from the path behind a tree

  • Potential for several tents or a bivvy party

Cons:

  • Visible from the path in daylight 

  • Not suitable if rain is forecast, because the stream crossing could fill/flood
